I had the Roux-en-Y almost 10 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did! I lost half my body weight. Mine was open as opposed to laprascopic.
I know people who have had the band and who have been matzliach. Dont think you will have the band and open/close it at will. If thats what you think, dont do it!
This is PERMANENT but its better than what you were.
