A heroic Brooklyn man tossed three kids out a third-floor window this morning after a fire ripped through his home, averting a tragedy that could have taken the lives of the 13 people living inside, fire officials said.
The three-alarm blaze began around 7:25 a.m. on the first floor at 451 East 7th Street and Avenue C in Kensington and quickly spread to the top two floors.
The fire then spread to the next door apartment building.

Although I can’t be sure, I am assuming that the house that had the fire was built before the apartment building. As with other “prime” areas, whenever an old house is demolished, a much larger house is built right up to the property line of the neighboring house (as can be seen in the video) even if it means covering up the windows of the existing house. And then when there is a fire in one building, the neighboring building is also affected. Had there been some space in between the buildings, the fire would not have spread to the neighboring apartment building.
Tossing kids out a third floor window is not heroic, saving them is. You forgot to include in the article what happened to the children. You’ll have to wait until the next fire to get that Pulitzer Prize nomination.
Presumably, there was a net below and the children landed safely.
Yeah, you could be right danielb43!
