If your father thinks it’s “silly,” not “wrong,” he probably objects to the fact that the hat is basically superficial and serves as a symbol for a particular group. If that’s the case, then he’ll probably come around if you explain why you want to wear it and what it means to you. (There’s also the money issue. Hats are expensive.)
