Just for laughs, I once followed up on one of those Nigerian type scams.
They wanted me to send them a money order for $500 and they would immediately get out a check to me for $10,000.
I spoke to them on the phone and, acting like a sucker, told them I had gotten the money order and was mailing it out to them.
Guess what? The next day I got their check.
It appeared to be a real check from a real bank in Virginia.
I got the phone number of the bank and called, gave them the account number on the check, and asked if there was money in the account to cover the check.
What a shock!!!
They told me there was NO money in the account.
Needless to say, I never really sent them, or ever even purchased a money order.
Of course for any of you who might not realize it, the way scam works is that YOU send THEM a money order. THEY send YOU a very large check, which of course, bounces. But, by the time you find that out, they’ve cashed your money order, and they are no where to be found.
