L.A. County Board Approves Ban On Plastic Bags

Los Angeles – The Los Angles County board of supervisors voted today to ban stores from using plastic bags. The board approved the measure in hopes of curbing pollution, saying billions of bags end up polluting neighborhoods and waterways. Beginning next year, stores will not be allowed to give single-use plastic bags to customers.

Customers who don’t bring their own bags will be able to purchase paper bags for 10 cents each.

Opponents of the ban say they’re concerned that jobs will be lost and low-income families will struggle with fees for paper and reusable bags.

  1. WHAT A CROCK!!!

If there are any sane people left in LA, and I highly doubt it, you better do something about your run away government or MOVE to someplace more normal. They are insane!

  2. Like all LA County laws, it only applies in unincorporated parts of the county which excludes the cities of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Calabases, and West Hollywood to name a few. Virtually no frum Jews live in areas affected by this law.

  3. I for one hate plastic bags but you have now with a single struck killed an industry in bad times. All the production works can now go and collect checks. Thank for pc. What about paper bags or is that no good because you cut tree and they have feeling.

  4. Anyone with small children knows that there is no such thing as a “single use” bag. In our home every plastic bag is stored away and later recycled for other uses. Whenever we travel I always pack some bags in my handbag as it is inevitable that one child will throw up. I also throw all diapers into a bag and tie it well before throwing it out. For those who are for this ban I hope you don’t complain when children start throwing up all over the bus because their are no plastic bags available or when the park starts smelling like dirty diapers because they are all being thrown directly into the can. I would certainly never spend money on buying a box of plastic bags for these uses. If they aren’t available at the grocery anymore, most mothers will live without it but please don’t complain about the stench and mess!

  5. working mom,

You must have great bags because most plastic bags I get in stores like ShopRite, PathMark, Stop & Shop, A&P, etc end up with holes on bottom after a SINGLE use. For the most part plastic bags coming from m’sheluni stores are even worse!
