Queens is the number-one borough in the city for auto thefts, New York City Police Department figures show.
An average of eight cars a day disappears from Queens streets, and the numbers are on the rise.
According to the NYPD figures, more than 3,000 cars have been stolen in the borough – accounting for 34 percent of vehicles stolen citywide. It’s also a 9.2-percent increase from last year.
The New York Post says police have stepped up night patrols to combat the spree and that auto-theft crimes are down citywide this year.
The most popular targets for thieves are the Honda Accord and Civic models. The Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry and Ford Econoline van are also top picks for thieves.
