Rangel To Undergo House Ethics Trial

Congressman Charles Rangel will face a jury of his peers when his House ethics trial gets underway in Washington, D.C. tomorrow.

The 80-year-old Manhattan representative is facing 13 counts, including tax evasion and allegations he illegally took advantage of rent regulations to pay below-market rates for several Harlem apartments.

The charges stem from Rangel’s efforts to raise money for a City College center named after him, his incomplete and inaccurate financial disclosure statements, his use of a rent-stabilized apartment for campaign activities and his failure to report and pay taxes on income from a beach villa in the Dominican Republic.
