A Yeshiva year-end outing turned nearly deadly yesterday on New York’s Bear Mountain, when a group of three students and their Rebbi accidentally wandered off the trail they were on and ended up at the edge of a 200 foot cliff. Boruch Hashem they had a cell phone and called for help.
Rescue workers quickly found their location and realized that the only way to rescue them would be to rappel off a cliff above them – a total of 400 feet off the ground – place them in a safety harness and lower them onto the ground.
The group remained calm as police helicopters were called in with large search lights to light up the area as it had already turned dark.
The tricky rescue was Boruch Hashem completed at approximately 1:00AM with no injuries being reported.
