It is appropriate to just drink more than you would normally drink to feel the effect of the wine. Be sure that you and your wife are on the same page about this so that there are no hurt feelings or embarrassment. If you are not home for the seudah make sure you have a designated driver to get you and your family home if you plan on drinking more than usual. Also be sure you will not be making a fool of yourself, throw up, or do anything else your wife will be upset about. Also keep in mind what impression and example you are making on your children. Things have gotten way out of hand on Purim the past few years and many, many Rabbonim have become extremely stringent about NOT getting drunk on Purim.
