Lakewood: Housing program gets perfect score

hud logo.jpgThe federal housing department gave the township’s residential assistance program a perfect performance score for 2006, putting it among the top 10 percent of the state’s Section 8 housing plans.

Only nine of New Jersey’s 85 programs received the highest ranking from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency, through its Section 8 Management Assessment Program, annually evaluates those public housing agencies that administer housing vouchers.

“It’s a nice birthday present,” said Rabbi Meir Hertz, who founded the township’s Section 8 program that celebrated its 30th anniversary in April. “This means all the funding for the program is being properly utilized.”

  1. How ironic things are. All the people “renting” houses from the Shver and Lakewood gets a perfect score. This is priceless! It seems to me that the Federal Housing Department’s inadequacies start at the very top.
