The House of Representatives yesterday passed without opposition a resolution calling on President Bush to move America’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and adhere to the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act. It passed the House just four days after the White House exercised – for the 14th time – the Jerusalem Embassy Act waiver, which allows the president to ignore Congress. Since the act’s passage, Presidents Clinton and Bush have exercised the waiver without fail every six months, as required.
The new resolution “commends Israel for its administration of the undivided city for the past 40 years, during which Israel has respected the rights of all religious groups.” It also urges Arabs and Palestinian Arabs to take steps to seek peace but does not include similar language for Israel.
A similar resolution is expected to pass the Senate this week.

I highly doubt any president will move the embassy to Jerusalem. Read my lips.
I don’t know if you could say pray that they are successful but I hope they are successful. It’s about time!
and if they moved it, they would davka move it to “east” j which does us no good anyway. if thats the case they should stay in TelAviv.
I don’t know why they go through this useless exercise every time. They have no intention of putting pressure on him to enforce it and he won’t anyways.
who cares where the embassy is?
Can someone please explain how this “waiver” works?
I dont want to sound naive, but isn’t this unconstitutional? what happened to the system of checks and balances?
Actually the U.S. owns a vacant property in Jerusalem for many years, which they are going to use for the embassy when (and if) that time ever comes.
Maybe the Americans like Tel Aviv more because of Pritzus…
Hatzloocha Rabba L’oivdei Hashem (“V’koivei Hashem Yachlifu Koiach)!
I agee with who cares where it is. The State is illegit from our perspective.
The property the US owns and plans to use for the ”eventual” J embassy is in West J. But what is wrong with East J? That is the real Yerushalayim. (For those wanting it davka in Yerushalayim.)
The waiver is a provision in the law as passed by Congress that Congress specifically authorized the President the authority to postpone for 6 months at a time moving the embassy. Every President since the law went into effect (in ’95) has excersized that waiver every 6 months.
Joseph: there is a US consulate in “East” Jerusalem.
shazam, ken zain, but the main embassy will move to the proprty the US has in West J.
