Israeli diplomats denied non-kosher dining

kosher logo.jpgIsraeli diplomats working abroad are fed up with a protocol requiring they entertain guests at kosher restaurants – have asked the Israeli government for the rules to be changed. Their request was quickly overruled by Trade Minister Eli Yishai. According to Maariv, the ambassadors had complained that in many foreign postings, most kosher restaurants are fast-food establishments far below the standards of diplomatic dining. “Keeping kosher preserved the people of Israel,” the Mariv quoted Yishai as saying.

  1. Yet the State bills itself as the ”Jewish State.”

And yet, its diplomats balk at a kosher food requirement.

    What a mockery.

  2. So, they should kasher the kitchens in their embassies and entertain them in their respective embassies! It is a very simple solution.

  3. despite “Keeping kosher preserved the people of Israel,” the problem as we all know is that, these frey people are not interested in the “people” of israel (b’nai yisroel) as much as they are the “m’dina” of israel.

  4. Keep up the good work, E. Yishei
I assume that the diplomats are given the names, addresses and funds to entertain in the many Kosher restaurants available throughout USA.

  5. when will these diplomats learn that perhaps the success of their mission is dependant on their eating kosher food!

  6. For the record, there are actually a number of non-Jewish diplomats working in the Israeli foreign ministry abroad. While the argument can be made whether or not Israel should be represented exclusively by Jews the fact remains it is not.
In that case, consider the arab or druze head of a diplomatic mission, meeting with a christian representative to discuss business opportunities in Tel Aviv and forced to eat fast-food Kosher (felafel or shwarma- your choice) in downtown Manila or Stockholm.

  7. what mockery? who says the diplomats are doing anything more than drinking soda in a non-kosher establishment?
