A hidur mitzvah is not the same as extravagance.
Hiddur mitzvah is, at best, a d’rabbannan. Charity is min HaTorah. Based on the way this thread is going, one should buy the cheapest esrog and give the rest to tzedaka. I wasn’t being disingenuous at all.
