Officials Find Link Between German Islamic Militant, 9/11 Plotters

Intelligence officials have made a connection between the Islamic militant who trigged Europe’s terror alert and extremists involved in the attacks on September 11th.

Ahmad Wali Siddiqui, a German of Afghan descent who was arrested by the U.S. military in July, is said to have belonged to the core group of militants in Hamburg, Germany that included key September 11th plotters.

Officials say Siddiqui and Mounir el Motassadeq also frequented the same mosque where the Hamburg-based terrorists met.

Motassadeq was convicted in 2006 of being an accessory to murder in the September 11th attacks.

The mosque was shuttered in August after security officials in Hamburg feared it was becoming a magnet for homegrown terrorism.

Officials say Siddiqui provided details on the al-Qaida-linked plots against European capitals that prompted the United States government to issue a travel alert for Europe last weekend.

The suspected plot is believed to have involved plans for armed gunmen to attack capital cities in Germany, Britain and France.
