A NYS-DOT analysis of highway crashes came up with 10 trouble spots on state roads and intersections in Sullivan County – twice as many as they found in the much-more-populated Orange County, and none in Ulster County. Being on the list means those locations are among the 5 percent of highway sections or intersections state-wide that most need safety upgrades, which seems kind of a surprise for a county that’s mostly rural. Eight of the hot spots are either under construction or scheduled for fixes in the next few years. (Record)

I am not surprised. I don’t think there has not been a summer in the last five years that there was not a story of a major car accident. But, are they going to fix it before the summer starts? Don’t count on it!
Sullivan County has some really nasty roads – that’s why some Rabbanim don’t like kids under 21 driving there at all.
It’s “the country”, not the LIE.
are these accidents b/c the roads are poorly designed or because drivers are not driving safely?
Regarding the winding roads off the State highways another factor could be walkers walking 2, 3 or even 4 abreast and not single file causing cars (that are coming around curves) to have to swerve to avoid hitting someone.
