Bloomberg Denies Reports That He’s Obama’s Next Treasury Secretary

Those rumors about Mayor Bloomberg heading to Washington just won’t quit.

CNBC host Larry Kudlow went on the air yesterday to report that “a very well-informed political source” had told him that the mayor would be named to replace Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Forget that Bloomberg has stated emphatically that he intends to serve out his full third term.

Hizzoner has shot down that rumor before — and did so again yesterday, when his spokesman, Jason Post, declared, “The report is false.”

And forget that the mayor has ruled out running for president because, as he put it so succinctly this week: “Can’t win.”

That’s what you get when you’re suddenly invited to play golf with President Obama — an endless turn on the national rumor mill.
