NYC: Pilot Program To Bring Emergency Intercoms To Subway Stations

Transit officials today are announcing a pilot program to install high-tech intercoms on platforms and near subway station entrances.

The intercoms will be posted every 150 feet or so, and will be topped by a blue light.

They’ll connect riders with a dispatcher at New York City Transit’s Rail Control Center, who would also be able to see the caller and part of the station through a video camera in the intercom.

The program is expected to start around the end of the year, and if successful could be rolled out at all 468 stations next summer.

Meanwhile, police have put out surveillance video of the man suspected in the Dyckman Street attack, and two other subway robberies.

He’s described as in his 20s, about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds, wearing blue jean shorts, a white T-shirt and black sneakers.

Anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS, by texting TIP577 to CRIMES, or by going to NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.
