I got a new machine in the summer-its a combination-it loads from on top, but it doesnt have an agitator so it is considered like a front-loader.It also uses the HE detergent and has seriously like 15 cycles. I love it but it took time to get used to in that you cant just open it up in the middle to throw something in that you forgot.Also, I never see the machine making suds so I always wonder if my clothes are getting clean! Anyway, my appliance repair-man happened to be in my basement for my dryer and he was very unhappy with me that I bought this new machine. He said that had I asked him what to buy, he would have reccomended an ordinary old fashioned machine with an agitator as they are less apt to breaking.
Go figure!
