There is reportedly more discord in both houses of Congress over a bill to provide health care to September 11th first responders.
The New York Daily News is reporting Senate Democrats are planning to attach the $7.4 billion legislation to a military funding bill, in an effort to improve its chances of passage.
Republicans are said to be mounting a filibuster, since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is also adding two controversial amendments, including one to end the military’s so-called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that bans openly gay soldiers.
The Daily News is also reporting the bill is not on this week’s calendar for the House of Representatives.
Local lawmakers had previously promised that the House would take up the bill this week.
The long-delayed bill failed its only House vote in July, after Democrats used a procedure that required a two thirds majority, in an effort to block potential Republican amendments.
President Barack Obama has promised to sign the measure, should it ever reach his desk.
