In a surprise last minute move, Assemblyman Dov Hikind has flipped his support from Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice to New York State Senator Eric Schneiderman after Schniederman promised Al Sharpton that he would have office space in the Attorney General’s office in Albany. He joins leaders of Agudath Israel, Bobov 48 and the (Reb Aron Teitelbaum) Satmar faction all of whom have endorsed Schneiderman in recent days.
When asked whether he was concerned to be supporting Schniederman who said that Al Sharpton’s support was the equivalent of “the Good Housekeeping seal of approval” Hikind responded that “Sharpton is anti-Semite and a miserable individual, everyone has cozied up to him…” explained Hikind.
Despite sending YWN this advisory only a few days ago proclaiming his support of Rice, Hikind insists “I never endorsed her.” Hikind went on to explain that because he never met with her he did not actually endorse her. When asked about concerns that Schneiderman is the most liberal of the candidates, Hikind responded that “one is more liberal than the next.”
Insiders say that this is an important election for Hikind because most of the candidates he has recently supported in community elections including Brad Lander, Bill Thompson and Joe Lazar have lost the Orthodox Jewish vote. “This endorsement is a test that Hikind will likely fail,” said one political strategist who is supporting a different candidate for Attorney General. “Hikind does not possess any magical powers that allow him to switch an endorsement at the last minute and actually move votes. More likely than not, the community will ignore Hikind’s recommendations as they have done in the past.” Hikind, however, insists that while he is endorsing Schneiderman he is not going “all-out” like he did for other candidates.
As a service to the community, YWN will do a full post-election analysis of Tuesday’s primaries to determine exactly who the community supported. In the meanwhile, don’t forget to vote – polls open throughout New York at 6am tomorrow and close at 9pm.
Below is the official endorsement from Assemblyman Dov Hikind as released by the Schniederman campaign:
ASSEMBLYMEMBER DOV HIKIND ENDORSES ERIC SCHNEIDERMAN FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
NEW YORK – As the Schneiderman campaign continues its surge, Assemblymember Dov Hikind endorsed Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General, citing his “proven track record” and naming him as the “clear choice for the Jewish community.”
“Eric Schneiderman is the clear choice for the Jewish community and all New Yorkers to be our next Attorney General,” said Assemblymember Dov Hikind. “Eric is a tough, smart and effective leader who will fight for justice every day. As a lawyer and a lawmaker, Eric has a proven track record of leadership and he will be an outstanding attorney general.”
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers, the New York Times, the state’s largest labor union, 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East and the largest private-sector union, 32BJ and Citizen Action, momentum is growing for Schneiderman’s campaign to be the state’s next Attorney General.
To date, Schneiderman has earned the endorsement of over 100 progressive leaders, prominent community activists, and labor unions including the Hotel Trades Council, UAW and the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association.

people will say anything to try to fool people to make a decision
maybe they should consider becoming Republicans –
it’s one thing to cozy up in order to get gelt, but Sharpton led the Crown Height pogrom – he has blood on his hands – do our leaders have no shame?????
Simple: Rice was leading in the polls before Schniederman was.
Flashback: Hikind refused to retract his support for [indicted] State Senator Kevin Parker to endorse fellow Councilman Simcha Felder. Hikind said at that time that he doesn’t pull endorsements and didn’t know Felder will run…
At a time in the year where one must reckon and account for his actions, Dov should make a Cheshbon Nefesh if he served his constituents right the past three decades. Dov should apologize publicly for all the back-stabbing he’s done for this community.
Rice is definitely the most suited candidate that fits in with our ideology. Although she too is liberal, she is the better of the evil pack. The only reason I was hesitating to cast my vote for her was to cast a protest vote against Dov. Thank you Dov for letting me vote for the suitable candidate without conscience…
Dave the saddest part of being ignorant is actually being called on it. Your bias against Dov Hikind and community leadership is so blinding, you failed to do even the smallest amount of research required to participate in this conversation.
To all those who knock Eric Schneiderman and there is clearly what to knock, Kathaleen Rice clearly spells out on her web site what she stands for as well: As Dov said they are all liberal and all are progressive. It does not make it muttar or acceptable but it does put the debate into a clearer picture and why different Askonim endorsed who they did. We live in a liberal city and state. Most all politicians support Toaiva Marriage its a fact. sad but true. Toaiva cannot be our only litmus test for a candidate or our community will shut itself out of the political process which will doom us to insignificance. As it we dont vote and the candidates know it.
From the Rice website:
LGBT Equality
District Attorney Kathleen Rice believes the fight for equality for our LGBT communities is a battle for basic civil rights. Kathleen believes that to rid discrimination from our society’s hearts and minds, we must first remove discrimination found in state and federal law. For Kathleen, the fight for LGBT rights isn’t just a fight for fairness; it’s a personal fight for equality on behalf of her LGBT colleagues, friends and family.
In May, Kathleen pledged, if elected, to sue the federal government over the Defense of Marriage Act. She was the first candidate for NY attorney general to do so;
Kathleen also Supports:
* Marriage equality in New York
* New York’s Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
* New York’s Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA)
* Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA),
* The immediate repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT)
Kathleen hasn’t just advocated against discriminatory policy, she has used her position to do something about it…
…actively recruited and retained LGBT prosecutors and staff to serve in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office.
…appointed the office’s first-ever Hate-Crimes prosecutor, who is specially-trained to investigate and prosecute violations of the state’s hate-crime statutes.
…represented LGBT victims of crime during some of the most difficult time periods of their lives.
“……As your Attorney General, I will fight for LGBT equality, I will use the Civil Rights Bureau to aggressively enforce discrimination laws, and I will use the office’s power to force change.” – Kathleen Rice
Mr. Hirsch that is YOUR conservative candidate!
The report that “Bobov 45” has “endorsed” Mr Eric Schneiderman for Democratic Party nominee for NY Attorney General is incorrect.
Ichud Mosdos Bobov, as a public charity for purposes of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, does not endorse candidates for public office.
Please amend the report immediately.

Riddle; What does Dov Hikind have in common with Schneiderman?
Toeiva? Schneiderman – staunch supporter and advocate. Hikind voted against.
Racial Profiling? Schneiderman pledged to fight Stop & Frisk. Hikind – outspoken supporter.
Woman’s choice: Schneiderman – staunch supporter. Hikind – Orthodox Jew.
Government Reform: Schneiderman will fight. Hikind is corrupt!
Liberalism: Schneiderman touts himself as a progressive. Hikind – conservative.
The thing in common: Both fake endorsements.
As YWN exposed, Hikind posted false endorsements at the Greenfield/Lazar campaign. Schneiderman posted false endorsemants on his website. Schneiderman’s website had State Sen. Martin Malave Dilan as a supporter, while he recorded a robo-call for Rice.
From the Website of Sean Coffey candidate for NY AG
LGBT Equality
Sean believes that unless everyone is free, no one is. As a result, Sean has pledged to fight endlessly for the freedom of the LGBT community, supporting equal marriage rights and fighting discrimination in the job and housing markets.
As Attorney General, Sean will fight to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a federal bill that allows states to deny marriage benefits to same-sex partners. Sean believes that same sex marriages should be legally recognized in New York State and has promised to file suit against the federal government based on constitutional challenges regarding DOMA upon election.
Sean is a supporter of Congressman Jerry Nadler’s Respect for Marriage Act, which would ensure that valid marriages are respected under federal law, providing couples with much-needed certainty that their lawful marriages will be honored under federal law and that they will have the same access to federal responsibilities and rights as all other married couples. Sean will fight to end discrimination against same sex couples in both the housing market, and in employment practices.
So much for the other guys- hu dave?…..
Love you Dov, BUT you are WAY off on this one!!!
Schneiderman has a FAR left agenda that is NOT good for Yidden!
Be realistic – all of the candidates for AG support things that we find offensive and are contrary to Halacha.
An elected official’s endorsement (especially Hikind’s) means nothing. Also with a extreemly low turnout the winner will be the one who can get his/her committed voters to the polls. I may even skip this election which will be a first.
Askan, I seems like did more research on this one than you and all of you so-called ‘Askanim’. While I never said that Rice doesn’t support LGBT, Schneiderman has made that a centerpiece. And, according to YOUR candidate, eric Schneiderman, Rice isn’t a devoted liberal. He attacked her as being too conservative and a Republican until 2005 (watch his recent ad – Values).
Schneiderman has boasted the fact that an equal amount of women support him, despite her gender, because of his views.
Schneiderman has been endorsed by NARAL – the leading ‘choice’ organization in the nation.
Schneiderman was endorsed by Marriage Equality New York,Empire State Pride Agenda, Equality Long Island, Gay and Lesbian Independent Democrats, LAMBDA Independent Democrats, Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club of Queens and Gay City News among other leading ‘Toeiva’ advocates in the State.
Schneiderman has the support of all the big proponents of Anti-Torah laws including: Congressman Anthony Weiner, State Senator Diane Savino, Assemblymember Deborah Glick – the only openly Toeiva member of the assembly, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn – also the first openly Toeiva council speaker, LGBT Rights Advocate and Expert, Professor Arthur Leonard and Russell Simmons.
Schneiderman has dedicated THREE entire sections on his website for ‘Equality’.
Schneiderman has released multiple ads touting his stance on this issue.
Although the others too support Toeiva (as does most of the Democratic party – the party the ‘Askanim’ support), none have made it their campaign platform as Schneiderman. While others do have endorsements from Toeiva groups (Kahleen Rice has only ONE organization), it is a fraction of the support they have given to Schneiderman.
It is probably YOU that is blinded by the money – Ki Hashochad Ye’aveir…
From Schneiderman’s Website:
…has earned the support of the broadest, most diverse coalition of progressive leaders…LGBT leaders…
…takes an activist approach… A longtime leader in the fight to ensure equal rights for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community in New York State… strongly supports marriage equality for same-sex couples…that come with a marriage license.
Actions:
…passed the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act (SONDA), which expanded civil and human rights laws, making it illegal to discriminate against a person because they are gay, lesbian or bisexual…fighting to pass the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA)…fought to bring the marriage equality bill to a vote on the Senate floor…will keep fighting…
…will vigorously enforce every statute that protects the rights of the LGBT community…
About His Support:
…has been endorsed by a host of LGBT organizations and elected officials including all four major LGBT democratic clubs in New York City, and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn…
Do You Need More?
…is running for Attorney General to ensure those laws are enforced…
Part of His Agenda:
…[fight] against the federal government to overturn the ill-named and unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act… [challenge] “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”… [challenge] FDA’s discriminatory, outdated and irrational ban…
…aggressively crack down on any business that doesn’t provide full spousal benefits…
…push Congress to pass the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and oppose any efforts to remove transgender rights from the legislation…
…will unleash dozens of prosecutors and investigators to fully protect gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender New Yorkers… …job and housing discrimination… (Do you want to be charged for denying a Gay tenant?) …actions against schools… (In YOUR school?)
He will …take a national leadership role [on this issue]…
I’ll let the readers decide for themselves… And yes mr Askan, every other candidate is better than that…

Not sure who “Agudah” means, but the organization does not endorse candidates.
Hey NY voters.
Progressive is NOT for PROGRESS!!! They are for more Obama & his socialist views. The Democrat party ws hijacked by the ‘progressives’ in 1972. They keep making inroads & basically took it over from true liberals. Liberals of yesteryear are closer to Libreratians (sic!) of today.
Keep that in mind when voting.
Once again I would like to thank Mr. Hikind for letting me know whom not to vote for.
“Supporters of Schneiderman have been running ads in Jewish papers this weekend claiming that he would “create a Religious Rights Unit” in his Attorney Generals office. It’s not clear from the ads is if the “Religious Rights Unit” would be part of Al Sharpton’s office or a separate office”.
– YWN ;( Yay Hikind!
Hikind is the John Kerry of the Jewish community. Flip flopped and Ois Gespheiled. I would personally ask him to sit down but then David G. would yell “Ouch”.
