Administrators in Yeshiva Ketanas (eg. Lakewood Cheder) and mesiftas (eg. Telshe) are fighting daily against this anti-“secular studies” attitude, which is probably driven more by laziness than by a true desire to learn more Torah. The attitudes expressed by Max well and holtzichfest above will only make their work more difficult.
And even bochurim who are truly driven by a desire to learn more Torah will generally be advised by their own Mechanchim to be diligent in their “secular studies”.
