kapusta, here goes. Let me know if it helps at all:
Lesson 1
We’ll start with Part 4 of the English regent. You are given a quote and are expected to agree or disagree with it. Then you are to bring two literary works to prove your point. If you look at old regents, you will find that many quotes speak about similiar themes. Read the quote and find the theme. Most of them are pretty similiar. The basic themes they ask about are (but not limited to):
A. rich exploiting the poor
B. greed dehumanizes
C. power destroys. Absolute power destroys absolutely
I’m sure you’ve learnt others in school. My suggestion is, you take two books you know really well (a third just to be on the safe side) and find the themes in those books. Certain books are full of themes and are very good to use. For example, did you read the book, ‘The Pearl’? If you have, then you will realize that the book is ladden with themes. It is much easier dealing with that part of the test if you know specific books you will be using. This way, you can memorize certain parts which will give you extra points, like the author, specific charactors…
Go through old regents, read the quote they give you and see if you can use those books to answer the question.
Hope this made the slightest sense to you!
k, now back to my pizza…
