Just for the record – I think the Rabbonim were given facts – numbers, etc. and based the Kol Korei on that. It’s a pretty simple cheshbon if you look at the numbers that there are so many girls in shidduchim and a shortage of boys. This is partially because there’s a large age gap between when the girls start dating as opposed to when the boys begin. So, based on that, they are encouraging shadchonim to try – if possible – to try to make shidduchim amongst couples close in age, which will even out the numbers.
