I think that if the couple are mature adults and their kids are in the parsha, they should wait. But if the kids are small, it probably does them more harm to stay together. Generally, I am of the opinion that couples should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS try to get good counseling both from a Rov AND a therapist and work out their problems. Not all problems can be worked out, but if people can remind themselves why it is they got married to each other in the first place, maybe they can work out their differences.
