A magnitude 3.8 earthquake rocked the California border region this afternoon, the latest of thousands of temblors to hit the area recently.

The latest quake occurred after 4 p.m. about 112 miles southeast of Tijuana. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The border region has been hit with thousands of aftershocks and triggered earthquakes since the Easter Sunday magnitude 7.2 quake near Mexicali. That quake caused more than $90 million in damage in California alone.

The aftershocks have occurred both in Mexico and north of Mexicali in the Imperial County area.

Seismologists have said the aftershocks have made 2010 more seismically active as compared with the last few years.
