Today, marks one year since NYC’s largest inferno in a decade, which engulfed 15 buildings along the Brooklyn waterfront at the Greenpoint Terminal Market [as originally reported HERE on YW]. Besides for a homeless man who had initially been suspected of setting the fire [as reported HERE on YW], nobody was ever convicted.

(The Polish day laborer never admitted guilt, and a judge ruled in December that he complete a six-month rehabilitation stint for alcohol problems.)

More than 400 firefighters fought the 10-alarm fire, and when it was finally extinguished two days later, six square blocks were destroyed.

According to a report in the the Daily News, the case is closed and no new suspects have emerged.

The fire was the city’s biggest (besides 9/11) since a 19-alarm fire at the St. George Hotel complex in Brooklyn Heights in 1995.
