Loshon hora is the case specifically when it is true. News reporting and reading the news (it is also assur to read, listen to, or believe L.H.) is not exempt from the L.H. (and rechilus and motzei shem ra) laws. As far as omitting the name is concerned, if the name can be researched by the reader (i.e. a quick Google search), it is halachicly the same as if the name was published.
