The Arutz 7 news service has just reported that the Former CIA Chief George Tenet claims in his new book, that he was the person who prevented the release of Jonathan Pollard during the Wye talks in 1998. The talks, between Netanyahu and Arafat, focused on an Israeli withdrawal from most of Chevron.
It is well known that Netenyahu demanded that Pollard be released in order to agree on a withdrawal of Chevron.
According to Tenet, he was informed by Sandy Berger (the former National Security Advisor) “you should know that Netanyahu has put Pollard on the table.”
Tenet reportedly stormed out of the meeting.
He was convinced that should he agree to this, his career at the CIA would be over.
Tenet then asked for a private meeting with Clinton. At that meeting, he told Clinton that if Pollard is released, he would no longer be CIA chief in the morning.
The rest is history.
Netenyahu signed the agreement with Pollard remaining in jail.

This is not news. He just added it to his new book. The fact itself of him blocking the release has been known since after Wye in ’97.
Had he resigned ,Clinton might have appointed a competent succesor.Hence no 9/11.

Spying for an ally wouldn’t get any one near 22 years. He wasn’t even convicted of spying, he was convicted of passing documents. He was placed in solitary confinement for years. You can go meshuga just thinking about it. What makes my blood boil, is the fact that he didn’t put the government through a trial because he plea bargained. He plea bargained in exchange for a reduced sentence. Then the judge turned around and sentenced him to life with out a trial after Caspar Weinberger y”s handed the judge a note. We have to continuously be mispalel for Pollard in our Shmone Esrei 3 times a day.

The Minchas Elazar in sefer Divrei Torah 1:2 gives eitzahs how one can have their tefilos excepted. One way he says is, for example, if one needs to daven for a choleh, then when he praises Hashem, saying rofeh cholim, he should have in mind the choleh. Then, the mikatrigim won’t be able to effect the tefila because is it possible that they can say anything against the praises of Hashem?
Therefore we can have Yehonoson ben Malka in mind by matir asurim.

Dear Reb “Baal Boose”, About 10-15 years ago the Gedolim (Reb Henoch Leibowitz, Reb Elia Svei, The Nuviminska, etc.) signed a Kol Korah that yidden should do everything possible to try to free Pollard. R’Moshe Sherer a”h was asked if Pollard was hiding stuff and if much more is going on. He told them that the people with security clearance that know, say there is nothing there. Therefore the Gedolim came out with the proclamation. It is blatent antisemitism. Back then, the CIA claimed that the only reason how American spies were being caught in Russia must have been because of Pollard. Now we know it was Ames who was spying for the Russians and caused deaths to American intelligence officers. Of course this is all the doing of HaShem, but we have to do our hishtadlus and Daven and do everything we can to help a chailek of klal yisrael.

azh: IMHO A Talmid brings credit not just to the YW but to Klal Yisroel as a whole. For that matter, this is an area where YW brings credit to Klal Yisroel by providing a channel to discuss these issues, and to promulgate ways like this of helping those in need like Yehonasan ben Malka. So I encourage those reading this to spread this idea of having kavana for him at those points in davening as widely as possible.
Concerning other questions about what he knows and doesn’t know, or what threat he might pose to anyone, IMHO the well known segula from R’ Chaim Volozhiner is so relevant here that I’ll venture a rough translation of the passage from the Nefesh HaChaim:
“Really it’s a very big thing and a wonderful segula to eliminate and to cancel all dinim and all other determinants (retzonos), when a person fixes firmly in his mind that Hashem is the all-powerful G-d and there is nothing else besides Him (“ein od milevadO”), no power or determining cause in the world, and in all the worlds at all, and everything that exists is simply filled with His total Unity. One should totally wipe out of his mind and pay no attention whatsoever to any other forces or any other sources of willpower and totally subjugate his pure thoughts and attach them only to the One Master, may He be blessed. Then it is in His power that all other forces and determinants will be totally subjugated and will have no power to do anything whatsoever.”
Hashem and only Hashem put Yehonasan ben Malka where he is and Hashem and only Hashem can get him out of there. Teshuva u’maasim tovim kisris mipnei ha-puranus, teshuva and maasim tovim are a shield against punishments. Kol Yisroel areivim zeh b’zeh, all Jewish neshomos are joined together, and every time one of us overcomes some yetzer horo he has or does some good deed or some tova for someone and has in mind that it should be for the benefit of Yehonasan ben Malka, it can add to the zechusim he needs to be freed.
If all this is correct al pi Torah (and I eagerly ask for discussion on this point), please publicize it.
