Bronx State Senator Pedro Espada held a news conference today to say that he will not back down despite calls from other Democratic Party leaders for him to leave office.
The State Senate president said that he will run again this fall as a Democrat and that he has at least 10,000 signatures from Democrats in his district – far more than the 1,000 needed to get on the ballot.
He went on to say that he believes the party’s efforts to oust him from office are racially motivated.
Espada claimed that Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the party’s candidate for governor, was behind the push to remove him from office.

Espada needs to be removed from office. I’d consider running against him myself but I live two blocks outside of his district and don’t speak Spanish well enough.
