AZ, your post reminds me of an anecdote about a gadol whose son became engaged. The gadol boasted of his future daughter-in-law’s large dowry, so people were surprised when they realized her family was quite poor and asked how her family was able to provide such a dowry. The gadol replied, “She is such a fine girl, and satisfied with so little, that my son will not need a lot of money to support her and will be able to learn for a long time.”
SJS, in many Asian countries (not just China) the male:female birth ratio is kept artificially high through terminations, because sons are much more valued than daughters. To some extent this is true in the US as well, and may be skewing birth ratios in some populations. B”H that is not the case in the frum population.
