Ames – thank you for the remainder – I just lite a yartzeit candle. I just was by a rav house last week, and I noticed that the wife had a bowl of oil and some wicks that were lite. I asked the wife why she had so many candles lit and she said they were for the yartzeits of various Rabbis. She heard from another Rebetzin that when you light a yartzeit, a piece of their neshoma comes in the flame. (Hence, we do not blow out candles, I’ve stopped putting candles on birthday cakes. That’s a goyish custom anyway and a totally new thread) It is good to ask for Yeshuot in the zechut of the rav. I wish I can get a list of yartzeit of Rabbis. I have been checking on line with no luck. The rabbi’s wife said in the daily Hamodia there is a listing. If anyone might know a website, I can find it on, it would be appreciated.
