Police have arrested three juveniles and charged them with burglaries at the Tannersville Shul on Tompkins Street in Tannersville. (The Shul is used in the summer months for vacationers.) The youths were also charged with carving several swastikas on a wall and into Seforim, causing extensive damage. Eggs were thrown around the Shul as well. The youths were charged with second-degree burglary and aggravated harassment in the first degree, both felonies. The three teenagers are scheduled to appear in Greene County family court next month.

Okay. This is great. A thread where we can’t argue.
They steal.
They are bad.
We can call them bad.
They are bad even if they steal from Chareidim, Modern Orthodox, Zionists, Reform or Conservative because stealing is bad even with from those with whom we disagree and even from those who destroy Torah.
Uh oh. There’s a problem.
I’m starting to like the thieves. They’re helping me to feel achdus (that’s achdut for the users of tav and unity for users of English) for my fellow Jew.
Can we like them for that?
Hey, we can argue about whether or not we can appreciate the thieves for the unity that they help us to achieve. After we argue, we can blame them for our petty arguments! Ashreinu!
Police might have arrested them but you didnt mention that it was Hashem who caught them. The police were only the shaliach.
Many frum people go there every summer. Let the Police and politicians know that we want more careful security. The people who own property there should get together and hire security to protect this old shul all year.
To Burich: You could write that comment about every news item. This is a Yehiva Worl website where we all appreciate that Hashkacha Pratis is running the world and not the police. Certain things do not need to be spelled out.
jdspero, what a clueless and insensitive remark! I was going to rant and rave with an entire make believe diatribe, but then someone would get upset. Thank you for at least slightly appreciating my humor. (It’s a good thing that my wife (usually) thinks I’m funny.)
rbsyid, I could be wrong, but it could be that burich was poking fun at me for a previous post. Burich, if I’m right, it was well received in a loving a peace filled manner as I’m sure you meant. If I’m wrong, then read rbsyid’s post.
It IS a shul used by our Torah-frum Yidden-Jews.
And,even if it were a non-frum synagogue,it doesn’t make it any less of a hate crime. Anti semitic hooligans don’t differentiate, neither should we. Only H K B”H can judge. We are ALL His children.
Technically, I think the shul is a year-round shul. They just grow from nine members to 300 in the summer.
Raphael,
Your comment is very frustrating. If you read the posts in context, you’ll notice that jdspero was making a light comment, poking fun at the type of people who truly do make the judgements. It was very obvious. Context. Context. Context.
The shul is NOT year-round. Minyanim are only held from Shevuos-Memorial Day till Tom Kippur-Succos.
Let’s see what kind of punishment they will get. I have a feeling that the judge will be pretty proud of these criminals.
sorry
