The oppressive heat-wave felt around the country in recent days continues to increase in intensity, expected to peak on Tuesday. Temperatures in Yerushalayim hit 100F during the afternoon hours, and Tuesday’s forecast calls for significantly hotter weather around the country. At 8:00pm, the temperature in Eilat was 96.5F in Eilat and 90F in the capital.
The weatherman predicts that western winds will move in during the late afternoon and evening hours, bringing relief. Wednesday is expected to bring a significant drop, with an additional drop on Thursday and erev shabbos, leading to unseasonably cool weather on shabbos.
Dedi Golan of Israel Electric Company calls on consumers to please only use appliances that are absolutely necessary during peak hours, primarily the morning and evening hours, as the electric grid will be pushed to the limit during those time periods. Golan reports that today, Monday, an all time record for electricity demand was reached and the system did what it is intended to do. He expects another record tomorrow.
