The gemara somewhere predicts Moshiach coming after 400 years of golus. the chofetz chaim quotes a Ramban about moshiach coming after 1000 years of golus. So far, we weren’t zoche. the one thing I do know is that all of the poskim agree that Moshiach can’t have died. they also all agree that it is assur to pray to anyone other than Hakodosh Baruch Hu, and that Hashem runs the world by Himself.
