yros, my husband’s family used to do seperate seating. I didnt like it because my husband really wanted to talk to his grandmother who was on the other side. The last two years they did away with it and I think its much nicer. After all, the men in the family talk to women anyway, so why avoid sitting at a (spacious) table with them?
