The bill brought to Knesset by MK (Kadima) Ronit Tirosh, dubbed the Lapid Bill, will be brought before Knesset on Wednesday for discussion. Senior members of the broadcast and journalistic communities will be in attendance.
The bill calls for a six month cooling off period, a hiatus period before a journalist can leave his/her career and enter the political arena, aimed specifically at Yair Lapid, who many feel has abused his journalistic forum to advance his political agenda ahead of announcing his entry into politics.
Tirosh hopes to push the bill to the Ministerial Legislative Committee on Sunday, determined to block Lapid from entering politics in the immediate future.
Lapid has of late been capitalizing on the anti-chareidi sentiment in the media, seeking to make the move to politics and re-establish the now-defunct Shinui Party, which was established by his late father Tommy Lapid, who at the party’s height earned 15 Knesset seats.
