So all of your medical advice was very helpful and wondering if you have any advice for me please…
My shin is bruised. I fell on it on Rosh Hashanah Monday Oct. 3rd. Was running outside and etc it happened.
My leg is still blueish & it’s tender in places but the xrays came back okay with no fractures!
Background:
In October, the impact alone burst my skin open in three places bleeding from under my knee to mid-shin. It didn’t hurt. It was all adrenaline and I was shaking after, just trying to clean up the blood dripping from my leg.
My family said to go to the doctor after the chag but I didn’t until Dec. It looked worse than it felt and it was a busy time.
In Dec. I asked my doc and she poked it. It was still tender. In January I got an xray. Didn’t show anything. Doc called with results and said that maybe I need an MRI.
I called last week to schedule an appt with the doctor. She left the practice. She was the one who saw my leg months ago and I only have a picture of my leg a few days after the fall. —Do I bring that on my phone to show the new doctor?
I thought that maybe this was a sign from Hashem but it still is weird and needs to be addressed.
Is there an explanation for a bruise that is still not healed after four months?
Thank you

– Will allow for anyone to state (as a fact, of course) anything under the moon
– Will attempt to convince you to heed everyone’s advice, as they come in
Na, I’d rather call it “Doctors for Dummies”. Read these few threads, master the work, become an expert in a few minutes..

Where do you live (city, town, etc.)?
She’s right – you do need an MRI!
February 19, 2017 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #1222900LightbriteParticipantI don’t want to say where I live.
Really? That sounds so scary. What would they do to fix it?
I have insurance and b’esrat Hashem they will approve the MRI and/or further testing and treatment. Sometimes the insurance turns down things unfortunately.
I thought that it was healing but then I hurt my back when I was in my Israel layover pulling suitcases for 12 hours. Still hasn’t fully healed.
What worried me was that at this point in Dec after seeing the doc, my leg got bruised further down from the main site (closer to my ankle when originally it was only bruised under my knee to mid-shin).
So she called for the xray in Jan. Didn’t see her then though.
Next week I see a brand new doc. And dunno if there is mention of my leg. I will write it up though for my file.
February 19, 2017 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #1222901LightbriteParticipantI’ve been practicing yoga still. Only big difference is that my lower back and knees are still tight and so my backbends are more shallow than they were pre-Israel.
After the injury I eventually was okay practicing yoga. Nov and beg Dec.
Though at first it hurt to rest too much weight on my shin.
February 19, 2017 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #1222902LightbriteParticipantThank you Health!
February 19, 2017 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm #1222903akupermaParticipantSee an orthopedist (specialist in such matters). Also talk to a primary care physician (a bruise not heeling can indicate a variety of diseases, some of which can be fatal). Do not ask silly questions on YWN.
February 19, 2017 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #1222904lesschumrasParticipantX rays don’t reveal soft tissue injuries ; MRI’s do
February 19, 2017 9:31 pm at 9:31 pm #1222905LightbriteParticipantMod-29 may be pleased here because my health insurance requires me to see my primary care provider first; so I have to go to the regular doctor before anything further.
Praying that it’s okay. Thanks
February 20, 2017 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #1222906hujuParticipantlightbrite: Do you know the difference between a doctor and a collection of uncredentialled yentas on the internet?
A doctor can probably help your leg get better. The yentas can probably help you go crazy.
And just to be clear, I am not a doctor, so I must be apart of a collection of yentas. But like stopped clocks, yentas are sometimes right, you just never know when.
February 20, 2017 6:11 pm at 6:11 pm #1222907MenoParticipant“my health insurance requires me to see my primary care provider first”
You don’t necessarily have to see your PCP, you just need a referral from them. Sometimes you can just call them and they’ll send a referral
February 20, 2017 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #1222908LightbriteParticipantThat’s a good idea Meno! Thanks. Worth a try.
February 20, 2017 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #1222909LightbriteParticipantOkay left a voicemail for the referrals dept. asking for an orthopedist referaal ~ Thank you!
Will see 🙂
See what the CR has is teamwork and yentas with good ideas 🙂
Thanks to you all, now I know more benefits of seeing my PCP as well as specialists for my medical needs.
February 20, 2017 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #1222910LightbriteParticipantWow they’re lightning fast like our Mods. Just got the call back and I need to wait until the doctor sees me first.
Yay. Well thank you because that did something and now I know for the future too. They have a special # to press just for referrals. I didn’t realize that before.
You’re all the best yentas 🙂
February 20, 2017 7:41 pm at 7:41 pm #1222911MenoParticipantLB,
I just want to clarify, I didn’t mean to suggest you shouldn’t see your PCP (I honestly haven’t been following the thread, and even if I was, I’m not a doctor or anything like that so I can’t give you that kind of advice).
I just wanted to let you know that you aren’t required to for insurance purposes.
February 20, 2017 8:15 pm at 8:15 pm #1222912LightbriteParticipantWell thank you regardless Meno.
In the past, my PCP told me that I am generally required for insurance purposes to come to them first and from what I remember, that was written in my policy handbook.
I wasn’t sure, so it was worth trying and I learned something new.
At least now I also know that they have a referral ext # to leave voicemails.
February 20, 2017 8:28 pm at 8:28 pm #1222913WinnieThePoohParticipantKeep us posted, LB. Now that we don’t have to worry about Lilmod’s purple toe, we have your leg to worry about.
February 20, 2017 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #1222914LightbriteParticipantLol. I think it’s fine. But thank you. I will keep you posted <3
I think it’s okay B”H. After freaking out a bit looking at diseases associated with bruised legs, I read that it’s normalish for leg injuries caused by traumatic impact to take months up to a year to heal. Hoping that’s the answer and all is good.
Will keep you in the know regardless 🙂
Thanks for the sympathy and wisdom.
February 23, 2017 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1222915LightbriteParticipantIt’s a BIG hematoma!
Had I come in four months ago, she would have sent me to a surgeon to see if they could drain the blood.
One cool thing is that it didn’t so much when it first happened to me because I had a lot of stress and other stuff going on in my life at the time. Hence, I put off going to the doctor to address the other circumstances. Interesting stuff imho.
She submitted a request for an MRI ~ Approval TBD.
February 23, 2017 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm #1222916LightbriteParticipantFYI: The bruise started by my knee and now elongated closer to my ankle. Turns out that this is normal.
She said that as the body absorbs the blood, the cells shift down because of gravity.
She’s seen patients who had a bruise on their forehead, and eventually the blood went down their entire face. And a bruise on the chest going down to the leg.
Mine didn’t go down that far visibly because she suspects that the impact broke blood vessels deeper and underneath the fascia.
However, if the impact hit more superficial vessels, then the bruising could have been visible up to my toes. She’s even seen patients with PURPLE TOES that came from leg injuries.
LU: That’s another way to get a PURPLE TOE <3
Thanks all 🙂
March 3, 2017 2:47 am at 2:47 am #1222917LightbriteParticipantJust got an MRI!!! Yay B”H insurance covered it 🙂
Waiting for the imaging CD now. Doctor will get the report tomorrow 🙂
Thanks for the advice! !
March 9, 2017 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #1222918LightbriteParticipantYay MRI is good and all is normal!
Didn’t show a hematoma. Showed some markings of prior injury (from the fall but everything thank G-d is healthy and will heal on its own).
I don’t have cancer (yay. was scared after Googling possible reasons why my bruise is still bruised looking and sarcoma came up but it’s not the case).
Thank you!!! Baruch Hashem 🙂 🙂 🙂
