    Because if you write Rashi’s historical cookbook, then the publisher might drop you when it finds out that Rashi could have never eaten some of your recipes.

    RASHI NEVER ATE MASHED POTATOES OR ANYTHING POTATO. THE POTATO DIDN’T COME TO EUROPE UNTIL 1500 FROM SOUTH AMERICA. NEVER ATE YAMS EITHER. OR TURKEY. DEFINITELY NEVER HAD SNICKERS CAUSE ITS NOT CHOLOV YISROEL.

    In medieval Europe, sugar was used only to sweeten bitter medicines. It was still too rare for cooking. It was an additive, not a food.

    All the American foods were unknown in Europe before 1492, including potatoes, tomatoes, corn (maize) and chocolate. Coffee had also not been introduced in Europe.

    Freese drying foods are done in temps -40 degrees Fahrenheit or colder

    Did Rashi have a way to get food that cold?

    Thanks golfer! Baruch Hashem, I didn’t think about it all Shabbos. Totally was wrapped up in Shabbos matters.

    Yet, now that the shavua has begun anew, I really pray to have some answers this week.

    Speaking of freeze dried raspberries, I inquired of a certain kashrus organization about their granting hashgacha to a product containing them, given that raspberries are basically unusable because of bug problems. They said the processing makes it virtually impossible for there to be bugs, and besides, the freeze dried raspberries were under the hashgacha of other major national kashrus organizations.

    That’s what I learned too about freeze dried fruit. The insects fall off in the process.

    About how insects are eliminated during freeze drying (OU):

    “This great problem [of insect infestation] is resolved through the drying procedure itself.

    Not only is moisture removed from the freeze-dried product, but from any insects present as well.

    Once the insects are dried, invariably they will break apart and be reduced to dust.

    The drying procedure eliminates infestation concerns by destroying any possible insects.

    This also holds true for dehydrated, or air-dried, fruits and vegetables.” (OU)

    The Navi in נחמיה says regarding Rosh Hashanah אכול משמנים שתה ממתקים basically means drink sweets i.e. honey. Based on that the Geonim drank a honey drink. dipping in honey is bought down in later works.
    So I guess Rashi possibly drank honey.

    Speaking about Rashi drinking, he did NOT drink Bartenura Wine. But he definitely drank RASHI Wine.
