I am trying to find out the dimensions of a typical NYC muni meter (height, width, depth). Does anyone know? I don’t live in NYC so I can’t measure, and while I can see them on Google Earth, I can’t measure them in street view.
(I am doing this for a project, and we are trying to determine if it is a “makom patur” or not. An old fashioned meter would be, but we are not sure about the new meters).
yes, but because a fire hydrant is between 4 and 10 tefachim high, it is in a different category compared to a parking meter. As there are fewer parking meters around, we are trying to determine the size of the muni-meter to see if it is also a makom patur.
We didn’t measure the meters, but from the pictures they seem tall enough to be a makom patur. The question we have is how wide and deep are they? If they are too big, then they could be a reshus hayachid, in which case it would be forbidden to place anything on them while in a reshus harabim.
