IY”H I’m going to the Kotel this afternoon. Look for me on the Kotel cam – I’m the one with a kipa sruga and glasses.
October 10, 2016 10:25 am at 10:25 am #1187311Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantWhat time?
You think you are the only one with a Kipa Seruga and glasses? Any other means of id?
Please daven for all of us!!! Wish I had time to go!!!
October 10, 2016 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #1187312gofishMemberI should really go too – I really want to go before Yom Kippur, thanks for reminding me! Look out for me – no kippah or glasses, but I’m the fish with long hair, teeth, legs… any other identifying details necessary? 😉
October 10, 2016 4:15 pm at 4:15 pm #1187313JosephParticipantWhat is the reason that the demographics at the Kosel usually is many many more chareidim than non-chareidim, if charedim are such a small percentage of the population?
October 10, 2016 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #1187314Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantHey Gofish, I didn’t know you live in the Holy Land too! Cool! Wonder if I know you…I can’t think of any fish offhand, so I guess not.
October 10, 2016 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm #1187315Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantGofish – you know you have a really similar name to Golfer, and I always mix you up.!It took me a while to realize that you are two different people. Both your names start with a “G” and have 6 letters and two syllables. The second letter is O, and the second syllable starts with an F and then has a vowel and then a consonant sound. It’s confusing to me, because I can’t keep track of what I know about each of you. I think you may also have similar typses of posts, but I’m not sure.
October 10, 2016 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm #1187316benignumanParticipantMany more Charedim live in walking distance of the Kosel.
October 10, 2016 5:52 pm at 5:52 pm #1187317gofishMemberThat’s funny, Lilmod – but I can see how our screen names can look similar… Now I have to check out Golfer’s posts to see if they indeed are a similar style.
If you were confused by my post here – I moved to Israel pretty recently, so that may not have jived with whatever profile you have of me. 😉
Joseph, that observation may be accurate at the men’s side, but I’ve never seen more chareidim than other populations at the Kosel at the women’s side. It is beautiful to see how all types of Jews from every type of background, ethnicity, etc. come together to pray to their G-d at the Kosel.
October 10, 2016 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #1187318Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantJoseph, why does it sound like you are trying to start an argument about who is better? That’s not so appropriate at any time and particularly not on Erev Yom Kippur.
October 10, 2016 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm #1187319Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantPersonally, I am always impressed by the numbers of Chilonim at the Kosel, and the fact that there are so many types of Jews there.
Joseph – maybe some of them are really Dati Leumi people who are makpid to wear hats for davening.
October 10, 2016 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm #1187320takahmamashParticipantToday there were many more non-chareidim there than chareidim. I got there around 11:30, and there were still many bar-mitavah shacharit minyanim going on.
L”UL I did actually add in a tfilla that all my friends and acquaintances in the CR be zoche to a ??? ????? ???.
I also went to visit my old yeshiva while in town, and a visit to Galpaz and Manny’s, visited my daughter while she was working, and a trip to the shuk.
October 10, 2016 6:00 pm at 6:00 pm #1187321DaMosheParticipantJoseph: The Dati Leumi people are busy learning in the Beis Medrash.
October 10, 2016 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #1187322JosephParticipantbenig: Thanks
October 10, 2016 7:46 pm at 7:46 pm #1187323Lilmod UlelamaidParticipanttakahmamash- thanks! That was really thoughtful of you!
October 10, 2016 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #1187324Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantI just did a search of the words, “percentage of chareidim in Jerusalem” and I came up with an article in the JP which said:
“Among the Jews residing in the city, 32% defined themselves as ultra-Orthodox, 17% as religious, 13% as traditional- religious, 15% are traditional but not very religious and 21% defined themselves as secular.”
Apparently there are almost twice as many Chareidim in Yerushalayim as Dati-Leumi.
Also, according to an article in YWN http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/headlines-breaking-stories/457459/78-percent-of-jerusalems-students-are-chareidi-or-arab.html
there are a lot more Chareidi students than Dati Leumi students in Yerushalayim. Aside from the Chareidi population, you also have to take into account all of the Chareidi Yeshiva Bochurim who come from all parts of the Country and from Chutz L’Aretz.
October 11, 2016 12:36 am at 12:36 am #1187325I. M. ShluffinParticipantI want to go to the kotel 🙁 Mashiach, if you’re on the CR reading this right now, please come today. K thanks.
October 11, 2016 5:59 am at 5:59 am #1187326takahmamashParticipantI want to go to the kotel 🙁 Mashiach, if you’re on the CR reading this right now, please come today.
After we made aliyah, I remember telling my kids what a huge advantage they now had over their friends in the states. “You can go to Yerushalayim and the Kotel whenever you want. Your friends have to get to New York, then take a 10 hour flight, then drive an hour to get there. Meanwhile, you can take a bus and be in Yerushalayim in 90 minutes. Always be grateful for that.”
October 13, 2016 3:56 am at 3:56 am #1187327Little FroggieParticipantI was just by the Kosel a week ago. What I found so moving – and actually brought sobbing tears to my eyes was when I visited Kever Rochel. I was told that the white covering was made from a Kallah’s gown who was killed on the day of her wedding.. I don’t now if it’s the one there now… but the mere thought of it made me sob.. very emotional..
October 13, 2016 12:17 pm at 12:17 pm #1187328gofishMember“Hey Gofish, I didn’t know you live in the Holy Land too! Cool! Wonder if I know you…I can’t think of any fish offhand, so I guess not.”
For some reason, I just saw this now.
I think I might actually know you… If I’m correct, you wouldn’t know me, but you would definitely know some of my friends.
Then again, I can be totally wrong.
October 13, 2016 1:13 pm at 1:13 pm #1187329Lilmod UlelamaidParticipant“For some reason, I just saw this now.”
It wasn’t for some reason. The moderators were apparently having trouble deciding if they wanted to post it, and they left it in yellow for a while. Meanwhile, they posted a later comment of mine, as well as other comments from other people. You read those comments before this one was posted. When they did decide to post this, they posted it in its original place (before the other posts that really came later but were already read by people), so I’m surprised you saw it at all.
I find it frustrating when they do that (I’m NOT criticizing you moderators; I understand why you do that), since people may not end up seeing it, and also, since sometimes, a later post of mine may not make sense if you didn’t see the first one.
I don’t think anyone was “having trouble”, I think some posts take excessively longer to read and approve
October 13, 2016 1:14 pm at 1:14 pm #1187330Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantGofish: “I think I might actually know you… If I’m correct, you wouldn’t know me, but you would definitely know some of my friends.”
That sounds scary.
October 13, 2016 2:19 pm at 2:19 pm #1187331gofishMemberWhy scary?
Either way, I have no way of verifying your identity, so don’t worry.
October 13, 2016 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #1187332Abba_SParticipantIf you are Frum it’s not so far fetched that you may have some common friends with the large number of people going to Yeshiva, Seminary and retiring there it is quite possible especially if Takamamash is from the same city as Gofish.
October 13, 2016 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #1187333takahmamashParticipant. . . especially if Takamamash is from the same city as Gofish.
I live on a yishuv, not a city. There are 2 other posters here that I’m aware of.
October 13, 2016 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #1187334Abba_SParticipantTakahmamash I didn’t realize that both of you lived in Israel. I thought Gofish lived in the US and you lived in Israel. I was referring when you lived in America that you might have lived in the same city as Gofish. I just didn’t think it’s strange or scary that you have friends in common even if one of you lived in a Yishuv and the other lived in NYC.
Gofish Are you saying you know who Lilmod Ulelamaid is and you Takamammash & Lilmod Ulelamaid are all on some small Yishuv on the West Bank.
October 13, 2016 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #1187335Lilmod UlelamaidParticipant“I don’t think anyone was “having trouble”, I think some posts take excessively longer to read and approve”
I think my first post was shorter than my second post, but the second post was posted way before it. That’s why I assumed you guys weren’t sure if you should post it.
October 13, 2016 10:29 pm at 10:29 pm #1187336Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantAbba_S: Gofish said she thinks she knows who I am but I don’t know who she is (meaning she doesn’t actually know me – she just knows who I am). As far as I know, she doesn’t know who Takamammash is and neither do I.
I don’t live on a small Yishuv on the West Bank, and I highly doubt that Gofish does either.
October 13, 2016 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #1187337Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantAbba_S: I think you have a hard time figuring out who said what to whom. That may explain some of your comments in other threads.
October 17, 2016 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #1187338Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI’m going to the kosel on Wednesday. Look out for the girl with hair that looks like a lion’s main.
October 19, 2016 1:22 am at 1:22 am #1187339Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantShopping – why are you telling everyone to look for me?!
When I was in the US, one day a traffic guard starting talking to me – she wanted to let me know she was Jewish too, so she tells me that she also has Jewish hair like me – like a lion’s mane! I was like, thanks for the compliment!
October 19, 2016 1:42 am at 1:42 am #1187340thebabblerMemberBackwards compliment, eh?
October 20, 2016 2:26 pm at 2:26 pm #1187342Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantHope to finally go tonight B’ezras Hashem!
October 20, 2016 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #1187343takahmamashParticipantl”u, have a great time! Daven for all of us!
We generally avoid going during tourist seasons.
October 21, 2016 12:07 am at 12:07 am #1187344Lilmod UlelamaidParticipanttakahmamash – I think it took me about 5 hours to get there! But it was worth it! And yes, I davened for all of you! I davened for all the Coffee Room Posters in general, but I also included all the specific “names” that I could think of. Yours was one that I remembered because you recently davened for the rest of us. Thanks for giving me the idea of davening for everyone in the CR in general.
October 21, 2016 7:19 am at 7:19 am #1187345takahmamashParticipantl”u, you’re welcome. One of my kids went back to Yerushalayim right after the first day chag – she told us the usual 1.5 hour bus ride took over 2 hours, mostly due to traffic in the city.
??? ???? ??????? ?????
October 21, 2016 10:45 am at 10:45 am #1187346Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantAmen! You too and everyone else in the CR and all of Am Yisrael!!
October 22, 2016 4:27 pm at 4:27 pm #1187347Shopping613 🌠ParticipantI don’t ussually go during toursit season either…I ended up going twice. Plus I was there when this whole thing happened where they found some russian tourist with a pocket knife….
