Anyone know of any issues with flying in the first trimester of a pregnancy? I’m talking about someone who has had a miscarriage before. I do know that almost all doctors say there’s nothing at all wrong with it. On the other hand I know of at least two Rebbes (Ger and Slonim) that tell all their chassidim to refrain from flying during the first trimester. Has anyone had any PERSONAL experience with such a thing?
August 16, 2016 8:56 pm at 8:56 pm #1166795zahavasdadParticipantThere is no problem problem with flying except in the last trimester
The doctor told us there wasnt a problem and we did it, and everything was fine

You make me smile. I’ve never had to fly while pregnant. We did go England while Mrs. CTL was pregnant with our first child. We didn’t fly, but sailed on the QE2…at that time it had a full kosher kitchen.
90% of my air travel is First or business class, but it generally is paid for by my clients and the time in the air is often work time.
In my mind it is not the flying that is the problem for pregnant women, it’s the shlepping of carryons, lines, crowds, long walks through the terminals and exposure to the recycled air in the planes that are detrimental to health.
August 17, 2016 12:09 am at 12:09 am #1166799JosephParticipantSurely you aren’t suggesting you would deny a pregnant Mrs. CTL a privately chartered flight when needing to fly, in order to avoid the indignity of the lines and crowds…

Mrs. CTL and I are in our 60s. There will be no more pregnancies for her.
August 17, 2016 2:41 am at 2:41 am #1166801JosephParticipantI would never have guessed. You both look at least two decades younger.

Maybe that is because she does have an expensive sheitel………….LOL
August 17, 2016 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm #1166803bentzionParticipantzahavasdad: While I know that all doctors say there’s nothing wrong and many women have never had any issues, I’m curious if anyone has been advised medically or by their rebbe/rosh yeshiva not to fly in the beginning.
August 18, 2016 6:23 am at 6:23 am #1166804NechomahParticipantBentzion,
If your wife had a miscarriage already and your Rav/Rebbe told you to not fly, then what are you doing here in the CR asking if anybody had any issues. Emunas chochomim should be enough. Stay home or travel only to where you can get to by train or car. It’s that simple. Some women are more sensitive and cannot handle climbing a lot of stairs in early pregnancy, even though millions of pregnant women do without issues. Should you try to force that woman to climb stairs? I don’t think you should. In the merit of being careful, you should be zocheh to have doros yesharim, sweet, beautiful children, and you and your wife shouldn’t know any more tza’ar of precious lost neshomos.
August 18, 2016 8:18 am at 8:18 am #1166805Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantBentzion, if either of the Rebbeim you quoted is YOUR Rebbe, then I agree with Nechomah 100%. Emunas Chachamim is not something to take lightly, whether you agree with what they say or not!!
On the other hand, if those are not your Rabbanim, you should ask a qualified Rav or find out what other Gedolim say.
August 18, 2016 10:06 am at 10:06 am #1166806zahavasdadParticipantI am sure some people were advised by a doctor not to fly, But its likely because the doctor suspected there was a problem before
Before we flew , there was a previous miscarriage, it had nothing to do with flying.
