I dont know the exact situation in Newport, but there are many times where if the stuff is not sold worse things can happen. The roof can collapse (The roof needs to be fixed and selling pays to fix the roof) The power is turn off and other expenses that need to be paid and there is no money to pay for them and in cases where there are no jews left, you just cant leave the building abandoned, you can get into trouble especially if parts of it fall on someone or homeless drug addicts decide to squat in the abandoned building and cause trouble for the neighbords
