As a kid in cheder parsha Vayechi we would memorize the “Va’ani”
This was the passuk of Yaakov describing his burying of Rachel incorporating Rashi’s pirsuh.
“Va’ani in ich Yaakov Chutch afilu ich bin dir matriach mit main kevira…”
I beleive the Beis Yehuda and meshivas nefesh chumashim included this in their teitch.
does anybody know what is so special about this passuk? why this was emphasised? (besides mesora)
Thanks

January 14, 2016 12:18 pm at 12:18 pm #1125509JosephParticipantIs that how you’re able to cite maare mekomos in the Gemora? 😉
January 14, 2016 2:39 pm at 2:39 pm #1125510ubiquitinParticipantJoseph it is taught in most chasidish chadorim.

Chasidish and Haimish Aka chasidish lite. Im not sure how common the latter is today since all the old chasidish lite either became Chasidish or Yeshivish.
Incidently does anybody know if the yiddish speaking chadorim in lakewood memorise the “Va’ani”?
what about Birchas Yaakov?
In Parshas Toldos when eisav sells the Bechora do they translate:
Vayochal – er hut gegessesn in nisht gevashen
Vayesht – er hut getrinken in nisht gemacht a brucha
Vayakom – in er hut oifgeshtanen in nisht gebencht
Vayeilech- in er hut gegangen in nisht gekisht di meziza
?

I just pulled that up from the recesses of my memory, among all the rust and cobwebs.

January 14, 2016 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #1125524golferParticipantI’m still waiting for someone to answer the OP’s question.
Please, please sign in, wise men of the CR, and tell us where the beautiful Minhag of teitching the passuk “Va’Ani” together with the Rashi in that warm niggun originated.
(And in case you’ll want to ask me the same question you asked Queen, -no, I didn’t learn it in Bais Yakov. But I remember it from other little boys, and some big ones.)
January 14, 2016 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #1125525JosephParticipantTalking about Rashi, many or most Chasidishe girls don’t learn Rashi since it is ??????? ????????? ???? and the Chasidishe poskim, including the Satmar Rebbe, psaken that it isn’t permitted to teach them. (VaYoel Moshe, Maamar Loshon Hakodesh, ch. 33 & in the 3rd part of Vayoel Moshe – “Maamar Loshon Hakodesh” – based on a teshuva that the Satmar Rebbe ZT’L wrote to Rav Pinchos Hirshprung ZT’L of Montreal).
January 14, 2016 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm #1125526golferParticipantThat’s very interesting, Joseph.
Of course I’m sure you realize that there must be many Rabbonim, poskim and Talmidei Chachamim who disagree. As Rashi is in fact taught to a large number of girls in schools affiliated with a lot of different Kehillos.
I would be interested to hear from someone who attended Rav Hirshprung’s Bais Yaakov in Montreal. I’m quite sure they also study Rashi and other mefarshim.
But first- The Answer to the OP’s Question, please!
January 14, 2016 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #1125527The QueenParticipantBesides for Satmar All or most chasidishe girls schools do learn Rashi.
