Theoretically if it would be possible, would there be a mitzvah to rebuild the Bais Hamikdash today?

More specifically I am asking do we have to wait for Mashiach or if it is possible we go full speed ahead.

The purpose in discussing this is so that if we find ourselves in a situation like 1967 when it was possible, we will know what to do.

All of us have heard, read & seen tons of true stories of people who had their first child at 42 or had a sick child in critical condition, & then the doctor says i’m very sorry but your daughter has only 3 hours to live & then he comes back 2 hours later & says its really a miracle but your child is beginning to recover etc…. Why is it that they finally had a child & the child recovered? There could be tons of answers, but the most common answer Is a Pasuk we say 3 times a day in Davening. Hashem is close to all who call to him, to all who call out truthfully. (Tehillim 145)Because they cried out from their heart, they really meant what they were saying when they davened to H-shem to have a baby or for his daughter to recover etc…. there’s a reason we call Hashem, Avinu She’bashamayim (our father in heaven) Hashem loves us from a father to a son & is waiting to put his Shchina (presence) & his bais hamikdosh back in this world. If we really cried out for the Bais Hamikdosh from our heart with truth & show that we are missing it, then we wouldn’t still be in Golus today.

What does all that have to do with the question if there is a mitzvah?

The Mitzvah to build the Beis HaMikdash is one of the 613. The Rambam in the introduction to Sefer HaMitzvos emphasizes that the 613 Mitzvos are for all generations.

We actually don’t need the Parah Adumah to build the Beis HaMikdash — the last Gemara in Eiruvin says that it can be built by timmaim if there is no one tahor.

To bring Karbanos we don’t even need the Beis HaMikdash, just the Mizbayach.

before you even think about getting the bais hamikdosh (or anything for that matter) you need to YEARN for it. until then Sadly we will have to wait to even think about rebuilding it. even if its mutar.

the choice is YOURS how much longer we will have to remain in golus R”L

Theres noone to blame but OURSELVES. Mashiach could have came hundreds of years ago already if klal yisroel showed Hashem that we YEARNED for it & called out with teshuva for it to return

May we all wake up ASAP so mashiach can come

what does mashiach have to do with the bais hamikdash, obviously he might build it, but my question was is there a mitvah to build it even if he is not here yet?

mr truth, according to the rambam , in order to be the mashiach , he would have to build the bais hamikdash. otherwise he is not mashiach

    #1113323

There are certain mitzvahs that I have a great love for and i YEARN for the opportunity to come up so I can do it. And also let it be a sign of Hakaras Hatov to Hashem for all that Hashem does for me and all of us 24-7

    mr “yearning”,

the question was is this a mitzvah that you can do, or do you have to wait for mashiach?

    #1113326

before you even think about getting the bais hamikdosh (or anything for that matter) you need to YEARN for it.

So, if I understand you correctly, it is OK to YEARN for the Beis HaMikdash but not do anything tangible about building it?

Is that like making hachanos for davening and then not actually davening?

The Rambam says Melech Hamoshiach will build the Bais Hamikdosh. He seems to hold we can’t do it until then.

DY: That’s the Rambam Leshitaso who holds you need a Melech to do Mechiyas Amalek and Binyan Beis Hamikdash.

OK, but that’s probably at least part of the reason we don’t try to build it now.

According to a post above, the melech hamashiach will build the beis hamikdash. The question is, who is mashiach? How will he know he is mashiach and how will we know he is mashiach? Perhaps building the beis hamikdash is what makes him mashiach.

I think what the OP is asking is:

If it were possible to build the beis hamikdash today, and I take the initiative to go do it, would that make me mashiach? Or do I have to wait for some sort of nevuah or shofar blast before I am allowed to build it?

Yehuda v’od l’kra? Who cares what “a post” says? The Rambam says it!

I think what the OP is asking is:

I don’t think that’s what the OP is asking.

in discussing who mashiach is, the rambam gives a list of things he will do, that does not mean that until then we should not do these things. rather if they are not done by the time mashiach comes, he will do it.

my question still remains, exactly as the moderator put it, given the ability should we do it?

trust me-in the name of Hashem-that if we were yearning for the Bais Hamikdosh it would have been built already with mashiach. YOU don’t need to do any Tangible action, cause Hashem will take care of it with Mashiach building it.

i.e. instead of someone trying to start builing it with a contractor. let him in the same time instead daven for the Bais Hamikdosh & mashiachs arrival & do teshuva on behalf of klal yisroel

    sam klein,

are you trying to say that we cannot build it if given the oppurtunity? can you provide a source?

If we can do those things, how does the Rambam know that Moshiach will?

Also, I’m confused. You are asking if someone can do it even if he is not Moshiach, and the moderator seems to be asking if doing it means he is Moshiach.

DY: The Velt certainly doesn’t hold that way when they tell the obviously-made-up story about the Chassam Sofer.

MA: “trust me-in the name of Hashem”

Are you claiming to be a Navi now? Does this make you a Navi Sheker? That post has fascinating Halachic implications. Maybe the mods should delete it.

    What story?

Lol about Sam Klein. I don’t think he means that he had a special revelation, I think he just thinks he’s more tuned in to Hashem’s rotzon than the rest of us.

its a sin that is chayiv in “caress” today to go up on the makom hamikdosh so how can anyone even put a single nail to start building if we are not even allowed to go up to the makom hamikdosh?

DY: It’s brought down in several Seforim, actually. Basically, one day he showed up to Yeshivah really happy. R’ Nosson Adler asked why. He answered that he saw a guy on the way, realized he was from Zera Amalek, and was Mekayem the Mitzvah of killing him. It’s clearly made up, but my point stands.

MA: Interesting. I wonder if Binyan Beis Hamikdash is Doche Tumah. We could say yes via Kal V’chomer, but there’s got to be an actual Makor one way or another. Tzarich Iyun. Either way, though, that doesn’t make it impossible Bizman Hazeh. That just means that we need a Parah Adumah first (or to raise kids in a way that ensures they never come in contact with a Meis).

That wouldn’t be a raya in any case – killing one Amalaki doesn’t mean there still isn’t a job for Moshiach to finish off, but building the Bais Hamikdosh does.

it is mefurash in tosefta (keilim perek 1 11) that if there are no tahor people, a tamei person goes in to fix or build in the bais hamikdash.

DY: Yes it would. If there’s no Chiyuv without a Melech, then there’s an Issur Retzichah.

Perhaps no chiyuv to wipe out the entire Amalek, but a mitzvah if one finds an individual.

That would anyhow be a chiddush of the C”S, that there’s a mitzvah on an individual where it’s not part of a whole mechiyas Amalek.

DY: That doesn’t make any sense. I agree that it’s not impossible to hold that there is an individual Chiyuv, but if you hold that you need a Melech, then you by definition can’t hold of an individual Chiyuv. Killing an individual Amaleki might be a partial Kiyum in Mechiyas Amalek, but even if it is it only stems from the general Chiyuv, which the Rambam holds is nonexistent without a Melech.

And I would have a heck of a problem with a Yeshivah student, even one of the Chassam Sofer’s caliber, Paskening a life-and-death Shailah on his own.

It’s not nonexistent, it just can’t be completed without a melech.

There were gedolim who paskened shailos chamuros when very young.
