Baltimore Police Raid Possible Religious Cult In Pikesville

Pikesville, Md. – Baltimore County Police searched a home with connections to a cultlike religious organization.

It started late Tuesday night.  Officers investigated a first degree assault of an 18-year-old girl.  She was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers thought something wasn’t right, so they went back to the home on Michelle Way this morning.

The SWAT team waited until a search warrant was signed before entering the house, just after 11 o’clock this morning.  No one was in the house, but officers say they are looking for a person of interest.

ABC2 News has learned that the searched home is owned by Dr. Avraham Cohen. Cohen is the leader S.I.S.T.

S.I.S.T. stands for Samanta Institute of Science & Technology.  The group is thought to be a reclusive religious organization.

  1. This “Dr. Avraham Cohen” was formerly known as Dr. R. C. Samanta Roy, a naturalized American citizen originally from India. Do not confuse him with a well-known Jewish artist who has resided in Baltimore for many years and is a respected asken in the community!

  2. The recent news reports about the accident at 3716 Michelle Way are such outrageous fabrications, I would never have believed how many lies and misinformation could be propagated in these articles if I hadn’t witnessed the events myself.

Below is a first-hand account of the events purportedly described above.

On the evening of Tuesday, June 8, 2010, I received a phone call from a female friend telling me to come to 3716 Michelle Way right away because someone had been hurt. I am a physician and live in the area. I had just gotten home from work, around 10:30 pm. I arrived at the house on Michelle Way less than five minutes after she called. There was a light in the back yard, and I saw that someone had been injured. Although I didn’t see, they said that a granite slab had fallen on top of her. I saw broken pieces of granite surrounding the injured person and drops of blood on the ground. They were removing the granite to allow her to be transported from the area. I assessed the situation and immediately called 911 to request an ambulance. When the ambulance arrived, along with a large contingent of police, everyone seemed a lot more concerned with finding out what happened than in assessing the injured person’s condition. She was incoherent, extremely pale and had difficulty breathing, with a blood pressure of 60 and a rapid heart rate – obviously in shock. Yet it took almost half an hour before they put her in the ambulance and gave her oxygen. I rode with her to the hospital and stayed with her in the emergency department where she was given emergency treatment and immediate arrangements were made for an operation. The injuries sustained in this accident are in no way consistent with an assault. They are completely consistent with internal damage caused by the accident. The victim has no bruises, no limb injuries, no evidence of self defensive actions.

If police were so concerned about an assault, why didn’t they request a rape evaluation at the time the patient was admitted to the hospital? Why was it necessary to barricade an empty house for hours and put on a dramatic show – just so the police officers can get their excitement for the day? Or was it something more sinister – to use this tragic accident as an excuse to generate more lies and rumors about Dr. Cohen? To try in any way possible to intimidate, degrade, and drive him out?
