Monsey Board of Health: Camp responsible for tragedy

According to the Journal News, the operators of a day camp in Monsey failed to properly supervise children, including a girl who left the grounds and was tragically hit by a car and R”L killed while crossing Saddle River Road in June as reported HERE on YW. The director of the camp, said that neither he nor the camp’s president should be held responsible for the June 29 death of 12-year-old Leah Ausband A”H.

Rockland Commissioner of Health Dr. Joan Facelle said that the camp’s failure to keep track of the child was precisely why the camp faced $3,000 in fines.

“The heart of the matter is that parents put their trust in you to supervise their children – even a strong-willed 12-year-old. “If the child was allowed to walk away with no one knowing, the camp was negligent.”
