Wings or poppers? Ch’V, just joking. These parties are rampant in the frum community, seemingly a open violation if darkei ha’emori. Should we just be happy that its not worse things? (This is all ignoring the mingling of the genders that sometimes goes on by these parties.)
February 2, 2015 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #1136326TheGoqParticipantIt’s ok as long as the wings don’t touch the poppers.
February 2, 2015 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm #1136327Rema711MemberYYBC we live in dark times
February 2, 2015 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm #1136328ubiquitinParticipantGenders can mingle at any party (Chasunah Purim etc) Dont even need a party can be at shul.
Its not a violation of darkei ha’emori.
Oh and personally poppers.
February 2, 2015 2:17 pm at 2:17 pm #1136329simcha613ParticipantIs a Super Bowl party really any more Darchei Emori than going to Yankee Stadium to watch a ball game?
February 2, 2015 2:27 pm at 2:27 pm #1136330gavra_at_workParticipantseemingly a open violation if darkei ha’emori.
What is your halachic basis? I’d like to hear this one. The Emori also breathed and ate, so are those darkei ha’emori as well?
February 2, 2015 2:38 pm at 2:38 pm #1136331Rema711Memberubiquitin no it is forbidden for the two genders to intermingle with each other, it says so according to Halacha
February 2, 2015 2:39 pm at 2:39 pm #1136332☕️coffee addictParticipantboth (wings and poppers)
we’re doing it as a shvach v’hodah because 100 years ago the goyim would be killing us, instead of the other team
and anyways bob kraft is a jew that supports jewish causes
February 2, 2015 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #1136333TheGoqParticipantCongrats CA on your teams win.
February 2, 2015 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #1136334Rema711Membercoffee addict so is he a frum yid
February 2, 2015 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #1136335flatbusherParticipantSUperbowl parties are just an excuse for gluttony, and many kosher establishments are more than happy to comply
February 2, 2015 3:40 pm at 3:40 pm #1136336the plumberMemberYybc
Are you watching the superbowl?
If yes, that is definately more darkei emori than eating food while you do it.
At least you can say “i wanted an excuse to fress”
February 2, 2015 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #1136337Rema711Memberthe plumber all football is, beefy guys catching a ball
February 2, 2015 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm #1136338Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantI didn’t attend a superbowl party, watch the game, or watch the commercials. And I don’t need an excuse to fress.
February 2, 2015 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #1136339Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantAnd no one said going to the Yankee game is muttar.
February 2, 2015 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #1136340☕️coffee addictParticipantgoq,
thank you! it was a great game, i wouldn’t be surprised if moshiach coming will be the same feeling
rema,
actually he is otd (his parents were frum) however he is a big supporter of israel (i know, he’s built stadiums) and he’s actually donated money to providence’s day school
February 2, 2015 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm #1136341Sam2ParticipantRema: When ubiquitin said “can” he didn’t mean “Muttar”, he meant that it often happens.
And please, learn something before you call anything Darkei Ha’Emori. It needs some superstition involved to be Darkei HaEmori. There’s no superstition in watching athletic competition. Chukas Akum we can talk about. Certainly no Darchei Emori.
February 2, 2015 5:05 pm at 5:05 pm #1136342🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantCA – that comment didn’t really come from you, did it? It really makes me uncomfortable . . .
February 2, 2015 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm #1136343simcha613Participantyybc- “And no one said going to the Yankee game is muttar. ” Who said it was assur?
February 2, 2015 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm #1136344Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantI think Reb Moshe, but I’m not sure. (I know someone,I just forgot the name.) I’m gonna need some help on this one.
February 2, 2015 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #1136345☕️coffee addictParticipantsyag,
i was waiting for someone to be in disbelief 😉
to explain myself (which is what you’re looking for) before moshiach comes we’re going to be surrounded and we will say “where is our yeshuah going to come from” and Hashem will answer “i will be the one to save you” so l’havdil elef alfei havdalos was this game, the seahawks were on the one yard line with less than a minute to go, and the yeshuah came from the least expected place of all, a no namer
February 2, 2015 6:04 pm at 6:04 pm #1136346Rema711Membercoffee addict in essence the moshiach will be an underdog
February 2, 2015 6:43 pm at 6:43 pm #1136347ubiquitinParticipantyayin R’ Moshe says YD 1 11 Specificaly that it is not Ubechukosehem lo seleichi (He doesnt mention darche Emori as that is irrelevant to the subject at hand) He does say that it is Bitul Torah. Is that what you meant?
February 2, 2015 6:52 pm at 6:52 pm #1136348Rema711Memberubiquitin yes exactly it is bittal torah watching football
February 2, 2015 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm #1136349DaMosheParticipantRema, if you spent the night posting here on the CR, is that the same bittul Torah as watching the Super Bowl?
February 2, 2015 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm #1136350ubiquitinParticipantRema, more so than arguing about it?
February 2, 2015 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #1136351Sam KleinParticipantis this what is on a torah yids top agenda to know? is the superbowl topic belong in a torah yids home?
what will our teire children be by the time they grow up if this is what their parents are talking about as their top priority?
Where does the border stop? where is the fence? when is the time for each of us to ask ourselves, will this (any topic) affect the chinuch & upbringing of my children?
February 2, 2015 10:24 pm at 10:24 pm #1136352TheGoqParticipantBut Moshiach will not be a cheater.
February 2, 2015 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #1136353☕️coffee addictParticipantactually goq,
did you hear the new report?
February 2, 2015 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #1136354TheGoqParticipantNo CA i did not whats the latest lie??
February 2, 2015 11:43 pm at 11:43 pm #1136355☕️coffee addictParticipantoh and btw the guy who went in the bathroom with the footballs was probably GOING TO THE BATHROOM
February 3, 2015 12:06 am at 12:06 am #1136357☕️coffee addictParticipantdoes that mean that the first report was a lie? :p
February 3, 2015 12:07 am at 12:07 am #1136358TheGoqParticipantDon’t ask don’t tell.
February 3, 2015 12:21 am at 12:21 am #1136359zahavasdadParticipantIt has become to the point where everything is Torah or Bittel Torah. Not everyone can learn for every free moment of their day. Many people need breaks, they need to get out of the Beis Medrash and have their minds on something else (If you dont feel this way I am not talking to you, but many people do feel this way) A break can be a healthy activity
February 3, 2015 12:39 am at 12:39 am #1136360☕️coffee addictParticipantgoq,
what does that mean?
February 3, 2015 3:58 am at 3:58 am #1136361the plumberMemberRema
Being into sports is a much better outlet than alot of other outlets in the world. There is no need to go listing them.
Just because YOU dont see the fun in following sports doesnt mean you should bash others for doing so.
I hope, for your sake(and that of your kids), that they follow sports
February 3, 2015 6:17 am at 6:17 am #1136363Sam2ParticipantSam Klein reminds me of a Rebbe who once pushed a friend of mine off the Derech.
The Rebbe gave a fiery Shmuess to his Yeshiva about watching the Super Bowl and one of the things he said was that Hashem is watching what you are going to do during the Super Bowl and judging you. One of the examples he gave was something like “You know your uncle with cancer? If you stay and learn he’ll be fine. But if you watch the game…” My friend’s uncle was diagnosed with an advanced cancer that March and died two weeks later. To this day, I think that friend still fears he killed his uncle by watching the Super Bowl.
February 3, 2015 2:40 pm at 2:40 pm #1136365Rema711MemberSam2 he did, it is bittal torah watching a Super Bowl game, for that matter watching any football game is bittal torah
February 3, 2015 3:22 pm at 3:22 pm #1136366Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantThis post is not discussing if the superbowl is good or bad, its discussing if its better or worse. So the real question is a list of kosher outlets. No one is going to say marijuana is okay because its better than heroin. However, if there was a need, for whatever reason, for a mind altering drug, marijuana would be a better choice. The question is if there us a need and if there are better choices.
February 3, 2015 3:30 pm at 3:30 pm #1136367☕️coffee addictParticipantim going to step in over here
any non learning is called bittul torah, the question is it l’toeles or not, like loshon hara
February 3, 2015 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #1136368WolfishMusingsParticipantDidn’t watch any of the Superbowl or go to a party. However, no mitzvah points for me. I just don’t have any real interest in football.
The Wolf
February 3, 2015 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm #1136369Rema711MemberYYBC both are bad there is no argument here
February 3, 2015 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #1136370the plumberMemberYybc
What outlets do your teenage boys have?
Do they read kosher novels all day?
Do they play sports? (Which is just throwing a ball around according to rema)
Do they play in the sandbox?
What are they supposed to do all day?
February 3, 2015 10:46 pm at 10:46 pm #1136375anon1m0usParticipantAll i know was the wings were great and the salsa was awesome!

February 2, 2016 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm #1136378ViennaMemberIs it wrong to root against a team? I’m rooting against the broncos, not for the panthers, and it feels weird.
February 2, 2016 10:34 pm at 10:34 pm #1136379Uncle BenParticipantWhy the bump? Is the superbowl coming up?
February 2, 2016 10:57 pm at 10:57 pm #1136380☕️coffee addictParticipantSorry,
