i was at a basketball game last night with my kids, it was a stupid game and my kids were getting restless.
Part of the side entertainment at the game was “dancers”, now im not talking about the prutzos that we all stare at our phones til theyre done. They had senior dancers.
Basically the local senior center sends over a bunch of old people to “dance”
I was so surprised when the old men came out in…hats and jackets.
I dismissed it as old people, but as i was walking out if the game i saw a bunch of black hats (they were wearing coats so i dont know about the jackets).
Is this a new thing? Are yeshiva guys gonna start feeling a lot less embarassed to wear what theyre supposed to wear?
January 25, 2015 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm #1055572JosephParticipantWhy are you going, and even worse – taking your innocent children! – somewhere they have what you call prutzos dancing at?
January 25, 2015 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #1055573curious yentaMemberMaybe they were making fun of them?
January 25, 2015 11:00 pm at 11:00 pm #1055574richashuParticipantYou cant ask a kasha on a maisah.
January 25, 2015 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm #1055575A jew who caresParticipantAll the genuine Yeshiva guys I know are NOT embarassed to wear hats and jackets.
Why should they be?
Perhaps those who spend their free time playing basketball are embarrassed to be seen wearing hats in public.
January 25, 2015 11:13 pm at 11:13 pm #1055576TheGoqParticipantIt sure looked classy on shelly silver.
January 26, 2015 12:12 am at 12:12 am #1055577the plumberMemberNotice that i wasnt asking if its ok to go to a basketball game. I dont really care about your opinion lior.
And they arent making fun. Theyre 70 yr olds.
And a lot of yeshivah guys nowadaya are embarassed
January 26, 2015 12:15 am at 12:15 am #1055578OURtorahParticipanta jew who cares- why you so judgemental? Stop focusing on other peoples growth
January 26, 2015 12:33 am at 12:33 am #1055579A jew who caresParticipantAll I’m saying is that a genuine Yeshiva guy is comfortable in their own skin.
January 26, 2015 12:40 am at 12:40 am #1055580JosephParticipantNo real yeshiva guys are embarrassed to dress like yeshiva guys. The only ones embarrassed are the fakers; like those who go to places with immodesty.
January 26, 2015 12:54 am at 12:54 am #1055581TheGoqParticipantHas anyone seen the magic kippa? made in israel it looks like a little toupee and was designed for jews in europe who cant feel safe wearing a kippa in public.
January 26, 2015 2:01 am at 2:01 am #1055582the plumberMemberA jew who cares
Maybe if you played a little basketball as a bochur, you wouldnt be burned out and might be Able to still be in yeshiva.
And goq
Ive seen it. Its hysterical and terrifying at the same time. Hysterical that its actual out there. And terrifying that its necesary in certain places in the world
January 26, 2015 2:22 am at 2:22 am #1055583OURtorahParticipanta jew who cares- so to be comfertable in your skin and consider yourself a “yeshiva guy” you have to wear a jacket and a hat all the time? Is a coloured button down shirt on a weekday a sin?
January 26, 2015 4:22 am at 4:22 am #1055584Sam2Participantthe plumber: Your cause and effect are reversed. Yeshiva guys wear those clothes because that was what was considered respectable when those “old guys” were growing up. It’s nothing about what they’re “supposed to” wear.

Thats healthy. Just sum up a hock among gedolim/rebbeim in a sentence.
You wanna also sum up the worlds minhagim on chalav yisrael and derech halimud too?
Im sure everyone on the cr would greatly appreciate that
January 26, 2015 6:51 am at 6:51 am #1055586👑RebYidd23ParticipantActually, summing things up in simple sentences is a good thing as long as it’s accurate.
January 26, 2015 7:41 am at 7:41 am #1055587SayIDidItâ„¢ParticipantJust to clarify a recent post of mine, I am not embarrassed to wear a hat and jacket. However, I do find it very uncomfortable to walk around all day with them. And so, if I’m outside and need to daven Mincha, I will daven without a h/j instead of running home to get it.
If you don’t like it, too bad! That’s me. Am I Yeshivish?!

Were not disagreeing. If theyre accurate…
January 26, 2015 1:00 pm at 1:00 pm #1055589JosephParticipantsidi: During the summer some people are uncomfortable wearing more than a t-shirt, shorts and sandals. And when needing to catch mincha won’t run home to change. That’s them. Are they yeshivish?
January 26, 2015 2:56 pm at 2:56 pm #1055590TheGoqParticipantSidi you are indeed yeshivish which is determined by your good heart and ahavas yisroel.
January 27, 2015 12:07 am at 12:07 am #1055591SayIDidItâ„¢ParticipantLior, that is who they are and I’m OK with it. My entire post was in reference to my previous post on Veltz Meshugener’s “
In defense of your fakery” thread.

January 27, 2015 1:41 am at 1:41 am #1055592Little FroggieParticipantSiDi: I’m not at all the posek, Rav, or any other other of the like, I’d just like to comment that in my humblekite I think it would still be preferable to run home and get your hat & jacket because off ???. A special act of preparing oneself for the audience and meeting of the Big Boss in Heaven.
-my humble thoughts, feel free to correct me.
January 27, 2015 3:34 am at 3:34 am #1055594Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantLook at what the shulchan aruch says about a beged meyuchad letfilah, then we’ll decide who’s yeshivish. Btw, how do you define yeshivish?
January 27, 2015 6:41 am at 6:41 am #1055595Sam2ParticipantLF: It is possible to accomplish Hikon without getting a hat and jacket.
January 27, 2015 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #1055596kj chusidParticipantI always wear a hat
January 27, 2015 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm #1055597kj chusidParticipantAlso sidi I thought u were a girl
January 27, 2015 6:35 pm at 6:35 pm #1055598Ivdu Es Hashem BisimchaParticipantas a yeshiva bochur i can say that wearing a hat and jacket basically just adds to the respectable look yeshiva bochurim are supposed to have thats all it means to me
January 27, 2015 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #1055599Ivdu Es Hashem BisimchaParticipanti myself wear a hat and jacket and enjoy the look
January 30, 2015 1:41 am at 1:41 am #1055601NeutiquamErroParticipantIt’s a very good look, both because it simply looks good, and because in comparison to some of the trash people wear it makes the wearer look respectable and refined in comparison.
BTW, this applies to all tznius and sensible, smart clothing, for any gender and any age (well, definitely the latter point).

January 30, 2015 2:15 am at 2:15 am #1055602TheGoqParticipantI define Yeshivish as someone who is a lamdan and has good middos, one without the other would not qualify.
