Monticello, NY – It took fire just minutes to rip through the roof of the Pine Knoll Country Club recreation building in Monticello early Tuesday morning.

Monticello Police officers helped move several of the seasonal tenants away from the fire danger.

The Monticello Fire Department, with mutual aid assistance, fought the blaze which broke out around 3:15 a.m.

The fire was already through the roof when police officers arrived on the scene just two minutes after the call came in.

The cause of the fire is believed to be the result of a defective hot water heater.

Village Police and investigators from the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire are investigating the fire.
