My husband and I were looking at the cost of housing in different Jewish communities. We noticed that, according to Zillow, the prices of houses in Lakewood near BMG are absurd (average around $400K). It doesn’t make sense that kollel families could afford anything like that. Does everyone rent? Is there a housing black market that only frum people know about?
Houses are cheaper further away from BMG. Also, most houses today are built with rentable basement apartments (built to code) which makes buying more affordable.
Most newly married couples rent, and when it comes time to buy, buy in a new development a fair distance from BMG.
